Red.
It’s a statement color. But oddly, I don’t wear much of it. It’s perfect for my skin color, but it’s not my first option. I don’t instinctively reach for it as I do black. But I will have to put my hesitancy aside for a moment because I have an event coming up with a dress requirement and I need your vote!
Red symbolizes a lot. Love, passion, fire…all matters of the heart. So it’s fitting that Heart Disease Awareness is represented by the color red. I’ll be attending the Links Red Dress Event in February which is all about advancing healthy heart awareness.
I don’t own a red dress, so we’ve got a project! The Red Dress Project…and I am auditioning candidates.

ICONIC CAPE BLAZER
Lots of options. The Vogue 9344 dress with split sleeves is gorgeous and simple. I envision a crepe rather than a stiff brocade. McCalls 7894 is a feminine light weight dress. The diagonal seaming has appeal. The Burdastyle 116 dress is a structured classic and can serve double duty for workwear. Burdastyle 113B is definitely as ladies-who-lunch dress. For Burdastyles 107A and 121, I see the chance to use a boucle and let the fabric be the highlight. Lastly, the Iconic Patterns cape blazer that I have been stalking for weeks. That blazer I would pair with pants rather than a skirt.
FABRIC SELECTION
I found a couple of tweed boucles, crepe and suiting fabrics. Each has it’s merits. The first boucle is a Telio fabric that’s so rich in texture and color. I can envision unraveling strips of it to make a Chanel-esque trim. The crepe is a staple and I’ve used this cherry Luxe Crepe for Michael Levine Fabrics before in my green Mimi G jumpsuit, so I know it’s superior quality.
Well, that’s the line-up. Tell me fam, whatcha you think? Suited up, flirty, feminine, Chanel ingenue? I’ve got a month to get it done. Let me here from you!

M7894 gets my vote. I think all of the candidates will be flattering on you but I really like the diagonal seams and the sleeves on M7894. It was nice meeting and talking to you at the Baltimore destash, happy sewing.

Hi Belinda, thanks so much for the feedback! Really appreciated. I like M7894 too, but I’m leaning towards the Vogue pattern as well. 🙂

It was very difficult to pick a pattern, they are all good choices. I ended up choosing Burda style 116. I’m excited to see your pick and the resulting outcome. Can’t wait to see it.

That cape blazer is such a statement piece! Bring the drama with the blazer in a lipstick or tomato red!!

Thanks Rosanne! I’m working on a red version right now!
