Hey loves!
Ooo I am over here getting ready to step out and step out looking good! So the minute I saw this wrap blouse pattern from McCall’s, I new it was a must make. My first take was to make something for work…but COVID shut that notion down! So I did a pivot and made this DIY top worthy of a night out.
The fabric is this gorgeous Viscose Rayon from Melanated Fabrics, the new online collaboration between two fantastic sewists, indie pattern designers and entrepreneurs, Mimi G. and Brittany J. Jones. I posted a recent fabric haul review on YouTube if you want to see all the goodies I bought along with this window pane rayon. So beautiful and just flows. It has close to full opacity, so you can get away without lining depending on the pattern.
This wrap blouse pattern is the #LuciaMcCalls blouse, M8095…an easy sew, with great results. I made View C in a size 10. Miraculously, it required NO alterations. Yes, can you image, NO alterations. In terms of construction, let’s get right to it:
Construction
- There are just 5 pattern pieces with only the sleeve cuffs requiring interfacing.
- The sleeves are eased in, rather than gathered in.
- I didn’t interface the entire cuff, just the button hole area to keep it fluid/drapey, like the rest of the blouse.
- Fabric recommendations: Something drapey as suggested by the pattern directions. Anything stiffer will add bulk through the front.
- Interior does require some hand-stitch at the side seams, shoulder seam and sleeve cuff.
In terms of the fit, this hits about an inch below my true waist, so for taller sewists, this may be more of a crop top.
Styling
SHORTS: I am as excited about these Zara shorts I’m wearing as about the wrap blouse. They are high-waisted and hit mid thigh which I like because they cover the “meaty” part of the thigh and thus making the legs look slimmer. The button detail adds that polish so they can go dressy.
SHOES: And my SHOES!!! A recent luxury item purchase, these are the infamous Dior “J’Adior” slingback pump, 4″ heel in the black technical fabric. Worth every penny in that they are a simultaneously new and a classic look as I’ll be wearing these for a few years.
EARRINGS: Over-sized pearl-hoops from Banana Republic.
Final thoughts, fabric and pattern are both winners!
