Hey loves!
On a serious roll here with refashion/upcycling! Taking something from trash to treasure using an existing piece of clothing is true DIY satisfaction. I took an old blazer and made a totally new tailored jacket using McCall’s M6172.

In my last post I shared an upcycled dress I made for Sewn Magazine. This time I sifted through hub’s donation pile and snagged this blazer. As you can see, it’s literally swallows me because honey is a big man.

To make the sewing more fun, I was gifted this fantastic set of accessories from EverSewn. They are an innovative brand that has it’s own line of sewing machines targeting the next generation of crafters. As a seasoned sewists, I was invited to give their Fashion Starter and Sewing Starter kits a try. I can definitely speak to the quality and I love the pastel color scheme. I’m particularly addicted to the “bow pins”, rotary cutter and tailor scissors.

Here you can see I completely deconstructed the blazer to give me the most fabric, but it wasn’t quite enough. I used fabric from a previous project for the lapel and under-sleeve.

My biggest sticking point was the front and side front. I chose to leave that intact from the original blazer allowing me to keep the pockets using some careful pattern placement.

I did a mixture of tailoring techniques. For the collar I padstitched the attached horsehair canvas to shape the roll. For the lapel, I fused interfacing and stitched a stay tape along the roll line. I highly recommend “The Classic Guide to Sewing the Perfect Jacket” as a reference. You can find it on my Amazon store. It’s my go-to reference for tailoring.
I also included a lining and added a front and back stay to provide additional shaping.
There was a lot of fitting and refitting involved to scale it down, but here is the finished project. Love how this turned out!

Switched up and joined the chucks and pearl squad…Kamala would approve!
