Warm weather has made its way to the East Coast and I am ready for it!
Starting off my season of sewing with this Vogue pattern, #V9299. It’s been around since 2018, but there’s nothing like a great DIY dress.
The volume statement sleeves are visually the focal point of the dress, but the deep slide slit anchors the look. That style detail elevates it from an over-sized dress, to a slightly sexy tunic.
I was gifted this Cupro Tercel Linen last year from Fabric.com. It’s a muted black, with a slightly slubbed texture and a dream to sew with for this summer style. If you’re not a fan of the excessively wrinkle-prone linen, then this fabric is a great alternative. To better view the drape, you can see it in my fabric haul video from Fabric.com.
The construction is straight forward. Usually I make notes on the instructions to reference later when I post, but I didn’t write a thing…which is a good sign. And obviously as a tunic style dress/button-up, virtually no alterations were necessary.
In terms of styling for this DIY look, I chose to chic it up a bit. The black is really muted, so I added these amazing pearl sandals from Stuart Weitzman. A walkable score of 10, and a style score of 10.
So what’s next?
All of these cropped, midriff baring styles are calling my name. Now that I’ve bared some leg, on to some tummy exposing looks!
I have an my list McCall’s #M8253, #M8252 and the #Oonadress by Vikisews.

This is beautiful! I love how this pattern works so well for different sewists and their lifestyles. Yours is sexy casual cool and mine have been more easy to wear workday fundamentals. The styling is perfection. Again love this!

I owe it to you! Once you reframed my mind into it being a tunic. I was going to wear it to work, but I love the hassle free life!
