Hey Loves!
Summer is getting closer and closer and I am soooo ready for it. The thought of being out, going for lunch or shopping, catching a movie after so many months of being homebound has got me excited. This is my latest DIY look that’s perfect for a quick but chic outfit.
For this DIY look, I used Simplicity Pattern 9224, another Mimi G Style hit. With its wrap front and full sleeves, the dress hints at a kimono. The waist is slightly gathered, but it’s a functional wrap with a side tie. I opted for View B (Size 10) which has the banded front. Here you can see a close up of the gathering detail and this gorgeous print.
In terms of construction, this is an uncomplicated pattern, but I did have to adjust the bodice and skirt length. At first make, both were too long, so I did the unsophisticated alteration of hacking about 1 1/2″ off the bottom of the bodice and the top of the skirt…i.e. I didn’t bother to make the pattern alteration. 🙂 It turned out well all the same.
I opted out of the interior ties as they added bulk right at my hip, so I hand stitched a buttonhole on the left front and placed the button on the right interior side instead. I also added a hook and eye on the same right side along the hip. This keeps the dress snug for a more fitted look.
Here you can see the back view…I swear I love this picture because I look so tall!
For fabric, I used this gorgeous Tencel from Melanated Fabrics…which is still available. Beautiful to work with and has good opacity. If you haven’t noticed, opacity is a thing with me because sometime I just don’t feel like adding a lining. Loving how this turned out because it’s giving me Rich Auntie vibes! Lol.
I’m also loving that I’m making the best out of my recent fabric haul from Melanated Fabrics. You can view my Youtube review for ALL the goodies I bought. 3 garments out of 6 fabrics. That’s pretty effective for a self-confessed fabric-aholic.

I’m at the beach right now enjoying life and taking full of advantage of working remotely. Work by day, beachlife by night. All photos where taken by me using my tri-pod and my new PowerShot Mark III camera. I’ve been using it for vlogging and still shots and I’m pretty impressed. You can shop the camera at my Amazon Store.
Until next time!
