Since I live in Maryland which can swing from brutal humidity and heat to freezing snowy days, I get to play with all types of fabric!
I made this DIY winter look in a Boucle Wool Blend from Cutters & Cloth Textile Co. Amazingly, this fabric is still in stock as of this posting, but in different color ways. It’s what I imagine the inside of a teddy bear would be. Warm, soft and cozy.
Here you can see the gorgeous texture and multi-color threads. It’s creamy-beige loops with black woven through.
For the pattern I used a simple pullover sweater pattern from Burdastyle, the January 2020 issue, #116. This was a truly easy sew that came together quickly. I don’t recall making any alterations other than making the hem of the trumpet sleeves longer that directed.
I did do a test run on the fabric to compare sergering vs a knit stitch and the knit stitch won. Virtually no buckling or distortion of the seam, though because of the fabric’s density, I did have to go REALLY SLOW.
I opted to hand stitch (catch-stitch) the seams open. It made the seams lay open so they’re almost invisible.
With Isabelle modeling, you can see the raglan sleeve drops further down her arm than mine. I have broad shoulders so I could have taken that into consideration, but I am happy with the result.
Can I say that I have been living in this sweater since I’ve made it. It looks even cuter paired with my pleather joggers which you can see here. If you’re looking for a go-to sweater pattern, this is it!

What a great top! I’m sure it will get a lot of wear this winter since it’s decided to be one of those winters!
