Happily rolling along with my #CapsulewWardrobe. Everything I’ve made so far; the pants, the two tops and dress, all have a look of cohesion. It’s nice being able to walk into my closet and have to few coordinated pieces with my label in them.
It also serves the dual purpose of growing my work wardrobe. It was truly lacking and needed some serious building. So the latest addition to the group is this cold-shoulder top from Burdastyle magazine’s March 2017 issue.
This was an easy sew, but the band that circles the shoulder and neckline requires super-human patience. You have to pay careful attention to the minimalist pattern marking to ensure you’re attaching the inner band properly and then there’s lots of pressing, hemming, trimming, pressing, trimming…you get the idea. You also have to practice working with curves to keep the band from distorting. Otherwise, it isn’t difficult to construct.
I paired this top with wide legs pants and I honestly love the look. I’m wearing a pair of coach sandals with a Chanel-esque flower that are faves.
The back view is lovely with the loops for the closure. I sewed a faux pearl instead of a button and as you can see I’m missing one, but I wore this all the same! The fabric is a rayon that I’ve had in my stash for years. It has a flowing drape with just a bit of structure. I think the pattern is suitable for a range of fabric and is less billowy than is depicted in the magazine picture.
On to the next project, a super cute summer dress!
